What We Believe...

We serve an unchanging God. And His word, the Bible is also unchanging. Psalm 119:89 says, "For ever, O Lord, Thy word is settled in Heaven." Therefore, the things that we believe should be firmly grounded in God's word, and should be, in our minds and in our practices, UNCHANGING. For this reason we have, in written form, those things which the Bible teaches and which we believe. Here is the Doctrinal Statement of Emmanuel Baptist Church

The Bible
We Believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament
are
verbally inspired by God, and inerrant in the original
writings, and they are of supreme and final authority in faith
and conduct. (II
Timothy 3:16; II Peter 1:20-21)
God
We believe in One God, eternally existing in three persons: Father,
Son, and Holy Spirit. (I Corinthians 8:6; I John 5:7)
Jesus Christ
We believe that Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit, Born
of the virgin Mary and is true God and true man (God-man). (John
10:30; Matthew 1:18,23)
Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit is a Divine Person equal with the
Father and the Son. He is the Indweller of every believer whereby
each is sealed unto the day of redemption of the body (II
Corinthians 13:14; I Corinthians 6:19; Ephesians 1:13). He is the
believer's Comforter as well as the believer's teacher as He works in
the hearts of His people. It is our intent to take a stand against the
current charismatic movement. Believing that God give spiritual,
enabling gifts for service to all believers (Romans 12:6-8; I
Corinthians 12:4-11; Ephesians 4:11-16); we nonetheless believe
that the apostolic age of signs and gifts of healing and tongues
ceased with the ministry of the apostles who were chosen
personally by Christ and with the completion of the written Word of
God. We believe that speaking in tongues was never the common
or necessary sign of the baptism nor the filling of the Spirit. The
gifts which remain are sufficient for the ministry and the perfecting of
the church today.
Devil
We believe in the existence and operating power of a real and
personal being opposed to all righteousness and exalting himself
against all that God is and has, the evil one called Satan, or the Devil
(John 8:44; I John 3:18).
Hell
We believe in a literal hell, the place of eternal punishment for
Satan, demons, and evil-doers. (Matthew 25:41; Revelation 20:10;
Revelation 21:8)
Heaven
We believe in a literal place called heaven where God's immediate
presence is manifested, where the angesl are, and where the
redeemed shall ultimately be from which Christ descended and
ascended again, where he maketh intercession for the saints, and
from whence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. (Acts
7:56; Phillippians 1:23)
Man
We believe that God created man in His own image and in a state of
innocency, but man transgressed and became dead in trespasses
and sins, whereby his posterity inherits a corrupt nature, being born
in sin and under condemnation. (Genesis 1:26; Ephesians 2:1-3;
John 3:18)
Salvation
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to
the the Scriptures, as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice;
that He arose from the dead in His glorified body, ascended into
Heaven as our Great High Priest and advocate; He ever lives to make intercession for us; that all who believe on His name are justified
and receive the gift of Eternal life by the grace of God. (II
Corinthians 5:21; Hebrews 7:24-25; John 5:24)
Regeneration
We believe that regeneration is a divine and instantaneous work of
the Holy Spirit whereby God imparts life to one dead in trespasses
and sins. (Titus 3:5; John 1:12; I Peter 1:23)
Sanctification
We believe that sanctification is a divine and progressive work of
the Holy Spirit whereby God, upon the grounds of the finished work
of Christ on the cross, His present intercessory ministry, and His
divine Word, sets the believer apart and works out in and through
him by means of a submissive will which is well pleasing to Himself
and through Jesus Christ. This work culminates int he recemption
of the body. (John 17:17-19; Hebrews 10:10; I Corinthians 6:1)
The Church
We believe in the one True CHurch, the mystical Body and Bride of
the Lord Jesus, into which believers are baptized by the Holy Spirit.
We believe that the local church is an organization composed of
regenerated, immersed believers instituted for the purpose of
fellowship, worship and service. In the matters of administration
and policy, it is self-governing. (I Corinthians 12:12-13; I
Corinthians 1:2; Matthew 18:15-20)
Baptism
We believe in Christian baptism by immersion in the name of the
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, being the Biblical mode of Baptism and
testifying the believer's faith in, and identifaication with, the
crucified, buried, and risen Saviour. (Matthew 28:20; Romans 6:3)
The Lord's Supper
We believe that the Lord's Supper is an ordinance whereby
believers show forth the Lord's death till He comes. (Mark 14:22-25)
Christ's Return
We believe int he glorious hope of the premillennial, imminent,
visible and bodily return of Christ. (I Thessalonians 4:13-17; John
14:3)
Separation of Church and State
We believe in the complete separation of Church and State. The
church would be deviating from its divine purpose and mission if it
became involved and influential in State affairs and vice-versa.
Believers are citizens of Heaven. If united with the State, the
church would be obligated to the State's wishes and dictates, thus
preventing its complete allegiance to God. (Philippians 3:20;
I Peter1:3-4; II Corinthians 7:17-18)
